This is a new and exciting role, joining the school at an important time of strategic growth and helping the school maximise fundraising potential.

The Unicorn School is a specialist, Independent day school for girls and boys
aged 6 to 16 years who have Specific Learning Differences: dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia
and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).  We are a small, nurturing school with just over 100 pupils, offering both primary and secondary education, including our GCSE programme.  We provide a cherishing environment and specialist teaching, bridging the gap between our pupils’ current performance and their potential achievement. The School is about to enter its 30th anniversary, and as a result of its continuing success, we are now looking to expand.

Initially the role-holder will take responsibility for fundraising for this specific expansion project, planned for the next two years. A key part of the role is building relationships with friends of the school and applying to trusts and foundations, seeing the process through from application to conclusion. As the role develops, there will be the opportunity to actively grow the fundraising and development function, looking at regular and legacy giving from across the school’s supporters.

The successful candidate will have proven fundraising experience including: preparing and submitting high quality trust and foundation applications; managing effective fundraising campaigns; building successful donor relationships.  The role requires the person to be able to act on their own initiative, creating and implementing a workable fundraising plan, be dynamic and proactive, have high standards for their work and possess excellent written and interpersonal skills. The school offers flexible working.  For the right experience we would also consider freelance.

Reporting to the Governors and Senior Management Team.
