Director of Fundraising

World Horse Welfare, founded in 1927, is a leading international horse charity registered in the UK that is dedicated to promoting equine welfare worldwide through a combination of research, advocacy, education and hands-on care of horses.

The charity, with a total staff of 140 FTEs and a turnover of around £9million, is almost entirely dependent on voluntary donations to fund our work. Expenditure for our on-going operations and specific new projects is part-raised through direct appeals and approaches to the charity’s donors (currently predominantly UK based), grant-making Trusts and other partners. We also receive significant income from legacies, which account for over 60% of our total income.

Having launched our latest strategy in 2020, we are looking for a Director of Fundraising to continue the implementation of a dynamic fundraising strategy across multiple income streams.

The Person

• Significant demonstrable experience in a charity fundraising environment, including leading a fundraising team to achieve challenging targets

• Significant demonstrable experience of staff line- and performance-management

• A demonstrable successful track record in major gift fundraising

• Experience of working with Trustees and senior volunteers to raise income

• Experience of successfully developing and implementing strategic plans

• Sound financial management, including setting, reviewing and managing budgets and financial forecasts

• Understanding of the importance of data and technology to underpin efficient processes in income generation and processing

• Experience of managing critical third-party relationships, such as agencies, consultants and suppliers.
