Head of Fundraising and Advocacy

Salary: £45,960 - £51,705  (YMT Grade 7)

Contract:  Fixed Term for two years in the first instance

Hours: Full Time – 37 hours per week

York Museums Trust and North Yorkshire Moors Railway have entered into an exciting new partnership to recruit a shared Head of Fundraising and Advocacy.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is known worldwide for its route through the National Park towards the historic port of Whitby, its distinctive collections of regionally and nationally significant material and the authentic visitor experience, reflected in the largest visitor numbers (circa 300,000) of any museum railway worldwide.

York Museums Trust (YMT) is an independent charitable Trust with the vision To work together with audiences and communities to inspire, to share and to care for cultural heritage. YMT has responsibility for York Art Gallery, York Castle Museum, Yorkshire Museum and Gardens and York St Mary's with the collections belonging to the city, all of which are designated nationally important and cover Art, Science, History and Archaeology.

The Head of Fundraising and Advocacy will be employed by YMT but will work equally across both organisations to develop and deliver individual fundraising strategies for each organisation, taking responsibility for fundraising activities each organisation and acting as a strong advocate for each organisation with external organisations.

The successful candidate will have significant fundraising experience on a large scale, ideally in a museum or visitor attraction setting, along with experience of implementing successful fundraising strategies, in particular developing new income strands and making the case for support to a range of funders including political and statutory organisations as well as individuals and foundations.

You will have the ability to set up, lead and develop a small team of fundraisers to achieve fundraising objectives for each organisation, along with strong advocacy skills to raise YMT and NYMR’s profiles with external organisations.
