Role Profile

ZSL is looking for an Institutional Fundraising Manager who will lead on securing sustainable large-scale (6/7+ figure grants) restricted funding from international statutory, bi-lateral and multi-lateral agencies. The successful candidate will be responsible for operationalising the Institutional Fundraising team strategy, taking responsibility for driving income from international statutory, bi-lateral and multi-lateral funding programmes. The postholder will also manage a small portfolio of international trusts and foundations and undertake prospect research of all international grant-making opportunities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working with the Fundraising Senior Management Team to maintain and cultivate strategic donor relationships with overseas government agencies, bi-lateral and multi-lateral agencies, to identify large-scale funding opportunities
  • Produce well researched and evidenced bids, leading and directing the relevant teams across ZSL and ensuring the highest submission standards.
  • Lead the end-to-end management and ownership throughout the entirety of the technical bid lifecycle.
  • Lead the review of proposal submissions against donor requirements, for quality and accuracy.
  • Develop a creative approach to the writing and presentation of technical bids.
  • Lead project teams to ensure all reporting requirements are fulfilled to the highest standards and ensure that appropriate reporting schedules are implemented.
  • Manage the internal review of donor contracts /agreements and associated Terms and Conditions to ensure ZSL compliance.

Person Specification

  • Strong track record in fundraising for science and conservation projects commensurate with ZSL’s work.
  • Experience of the programme design process including the development of log-frames.
  • Strong track record of securing international statutory funding relevant to ZSL’s core objectives.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Comfortable with reading and analysing scientific research and translating complex ideas into well-presented, persuasive proposals.
  • Sound understanding of global biodiversity conservation issues.
  • Demonstrable strategic, scientific and analytical mind-set.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
